I made my debut as a TV (well, Web TV) reporter last week. Shucks, as it’s such a brave new area for me I thought I’d document the occasion.
My first report was on the recent GPL v3 Symposium at the UNSW. See the Cyberspace Policy and Law Centre’s Unlocking IP project for an example of the work it does (thanks Catherine).
The symposium was quite a who’s who of the local free software community. As you might expect there were a few familiar faces…
Tridge was there speaking about all things GPL which was, as always, very informative and entertaining.
Towards the end of the report I interviewed hot-shot Sydney lawyer Brendan Scott about the key differences between GPL v2 and v3.
A big thanks to all who congratulated me on the report. To answer some FAQs:
1. Static links are coming, so soon you will be able to link directly to IDG’s Web TV episodes.
2. While low-res Flash may not give it justice, yes this is actually a professional TV production with a professional cameraman, professional recording/editing studio, professional video editing software, professional video editor, and not-so-professional reporter.
3. Following on from (2), everything is produced in high-res which may be broadcast in the future.
This may have been my first report but it certainly won’t be my last as another report is already scheduled for broadcast on Monday.
