My recent social networking splurge has led me to join Facebook.
I like the idea of social networking portals. The concept really brings the fore the communication possibility of the Web. Relationship and messaging portals are what the Web does best.
I haven’t deliberately stayed away from social networks, but publishing my own blog for the past four years (and writing about them in my professional life) hasn’t compelled me to join them just for the same of having an “Internet identity”.
Of course, the beauty of Facebook is it connects people who are familiar with the Web with those who are just getting their feet wet.
As always, privacy should be top of mind when using a third-party SaaS application so tread carefully with your personal information. That’s one of the reasons why I like running my own blog!
