Upon arrival at Sydney airport on the way to Networkers last week, I saw something quite funny. So funny, I couldn’t resist taking a few snaps.
It seems that Sydney Airport IT is prepared to bet on Windows for its indicator boards. That’s all well and good – except when Windows Media Player wants attention. It was complaining about how it was having a bad day and would therefore make the rest of the system suffer. If that wasn’t bad enough, the indicator boards are in fact terminals displaying the information from a central server. There were Windows Media heart attack signals all over the domestic airport. It was like that for all the time I was there, so at least an hour.
Will Qantas take note? Are any planes running Windows? Will they literally crash?
