What’s Telstra’s phone number?

A funny thing happened to me in Melbourne last week.

Immediately after Rob Roe’s presentation I asked him if I could take a photo of him for the mag. After much deliberation he concluded it would be best for me to get permission from Telstra’ PR department. Having dealt with them before that wasn’t an issue at all – they’re a pretty cool bunch. However, I had one slight problem – my Telstra media contacts were in Sydney and I was in Melbourne (yes, I HAVE heard of the Internet). So I dialed the Sensis 1234 number and asked to be connected to Telstra Corporation in Melbourne. Sure as Hell I was immediately put through to…

“The number you have called is not connected, please check the number and call again.”

You’re kidding right?

A few seconds later and sms lands on my phone with Sensis’ usual spam message whenever you use its call connect service (which IS quite good, BTW).

“Telstra Corporation Limited 03 9634 1111 From 1234/Telstra”

So there you have it – Australia’s multi-billion pound gorilla national phone company doesn’t even know it’s own number. Please someone tell me I’m wrong here. If you don’t believe me call the number yourself. And I’m a loyal Telstra customer with mobile and landline services.

Perhaps the problem is at Sensis’ end. I mean, sure it’s an ambitious goal to integrate all that directory information but it may well have bitten of more than it could chew – for now.

Either way, Telstra need’s a new phone number and I got a pretty good photo of Rob.

  1. I have had the same problem today. I have actually called
    132200 x3 times /131191 x 3 times / 132000 x 3 times /
1300 368 387 x 2 times. Each time I was told I couldn’t get through and the phone cut out. 14 times I paid for a call which I never had.

I am trying to talk to someone to change my account details.
I can’t even find a number for them on the internet.
Had to look in a phone book.

I am now going to phone for T3 shares and see if I speak to someone.
(Who will no doubt be unable to transfer me to the correct number).

  2. Just got an email from Telstra telling me that in order to cancel my mobile account (permanently back in the US) I would have to call them at
“We regret to inform you that we can not cancel an account via email. The best
    way to settle
this issue is by calling us on +612 934 61193 from overseas.”

When I called this number…I got an OPTUS??? message that says that their phone number I called has been disconnected or is unavailable.

    Un…*ucking…believable!!!!
