{"id":251,"date":"2010-06-26T10:28:43","date_gmt":"2010-06-26T00:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gedda.info\/?p=251"},"modified":"2014-04-30T09:22:55","modified_gmt":"2014-04-29T23:22:55","slug":"compiz-like-key-bindings-for-kwins-cube-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gedda.info\/?p=251","title":{"rendered":"Compiz-like key bindings for KWin&#8217;s cube effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve used the flashy spinning cube desktop effect on GNOME-based Linux systems running Compiz, you may be familiar with the ctrl-alt-left (or right arrow) key combination to &#8220;spin&#8221; the cube around in those respective directions.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a KDE user you already have compositing effects in KWin without the need for a third-party window manager &#8211; how about that.<\/p>\n<p>By default, KWin doesn&#8217;t follow the Compiz way of switching desktops with the spinning cube, but it&#8217;s very easy to set as an option. In System Settings go to &#8220;Desktop&#8221; -&gt; &#8220;Multiple Desktops&#8221; and click on the Switching tab.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_249\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-249\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-249\" title=\"kwin_desktop_switching\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gedda.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/kwin_desktop_switching-300x202.png\" alt=\"Setting key bindings for KWin's spinning cube effect\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-249\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Setting key bindings for KWin&#8217;s spinning cube effect<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Then in the &#8220;shortcuts&#8221; section click on &#8220;Switch to Next Desktop&#8221;. Select the custom option and click on the button (it will have &#8220;none&#8221; if no key binding is set). With the button pressed and displaying &#8220;input&#8230;&#8221; hold down the ctrl, alt and left keys simultaneously. Then click apply and you&#8217;re done. You&#8217;re desktop will spin the cube just like Compiz.
