{"id":257,"date":"2010-07-26T21:58:34","date_gmt":"2010-07-26T11:58:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gedda.info\/?p=257"},"modified":"2014-03-29T13:44:02","modified_gmt":"2014-03-29T03:44:02","slug":"tax-office-chooses-ubuntu-for-auskey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gedda.info\/?p=257","title":{"rendered":"Tax office chooses Ubuntu for AUSkey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I managed to get an interesting snippet out of the ATO last week.<\/p>\n<p>The tax office will base its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techworld.com.au\/article\/353946\/tax_office_goes_ubuntu_auskey_linux_standard\">AUSkey Linux port on Ubuntu.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>AUSkey is written in Java and in theory is cross-platform, but with tax testing it on Linux it should finally work without a whole lot of frustration. It also shows how far Ubuntu has come in garnering mainstream public opinion on what is the most popular Linux distribution for testing efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Ubuntu does not equal Linux per se, but if the same decision was made only a few years ago it would have been based on one of the well-known commercial distros.<\/p>\n<p>Good to see the ATO committing to more openness &#8211; with software and media relations.
